A Found Memory: history, memory and the home are the three main issues I deal with. The history of the Gibraltan evacuees who came to Northern Ireland during World War II are the ‘found memories’ and the primary focus of my art. Typically, pencil and pen are the key materials used to create my drawings, to which ‘found’ materials and stitching are added. The interpretations of the figures in many of my drawings are abstracted, fragmented and obscured into forms of crosses. By this I aim to provoke the viewer into a consideration not only of historical documentation but also the role of memory itself, whether collective or personal.
